150 Feet Underneath the Sea

November 8: The Lahaina Light (1917) is the successor to the first lighted navigation aid in Hawaii ordered by King Kamehameha in 1840 (below l). The cruiseship Pride of Aloha was anchored off of Lahaina with tenders ferrying passengers to and fro (below r).

Our entire crew sailed out of Lahaina and transshipped to the Atlantis submarine which descended 150 feet for a close up view of the life on the reef. The Atlantis surfacing (below l):

King Kamehameha Golf Club

We toured the Frank Lloyd Wright club house at King Kamehameha Golf Club on the east slope of West Maui overlooking the sugar cane fields.

The pro explained that the nene, the state bird and a near relative of the Canada goose, have the right of way throughout this golf course:

Above West Maui and Molokai

November 7: Rain in East Maui diverted our flight on Blue Hawaiian Helicopters around West Maui and the east and west coasts of Moloka'i.

Kahakuloa Head on north shore of West Maui (below l) and Island off Moloka'i (below r):

The north shore of Moloka'i has the world's tallest seacliffs; up to 3,000 ft. from top to bottom:

Hawaii's tallest waterfall is Hakiwa (1,750 ft) on Moloka'i's north shore:

Some more waterfalls:

The early Hawaiians built fish ponds along the west coast of Moloka'i:

The Drive Back from Hana

By the time we headed back from Hana, we were tired and our goal was to get back to Pa'ia before sunset. Most photography was on the go as we only stopped for on-coming traffic at one-lane bridges.

We went as far as the Palapala Ho'omau Church to see the grave of Charles Lindbergh. The church has a stained-glass window of "The Polynesian Christ."
