Kites on Jockey's Ridge

Jockey's Ridge is a giant sand dune stretching from sea to sound in the middle of the Outer Banks. The larger "kites" (ray, scuba diver, octopus) are actually spinsocks held aloft by smaller kites overhead.

A Substitute Roadside Farmstand

We ALWAYS stop at the roadside Grandy Farm Market on US 158 in Grandy, NC, coming and going, no matter the time of year but not this time! It was "closed for the season." We had to make do at the one on down the road across from the Cotton Gin.

The Chrysler Museum, Norfolk

We stopped off in Norfolk to tour the excellent Chrysler Museum which, among other things, has a tremendous glass collection (Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., lived next door to Louis Comfort Tiffany on Long Island), a room full of art nouveau furniture and a decent cafe. There was also a special exhibit of the photographs of Cecil Beaton.
