Baltimore Farmers' Market

We love Baltimore's Farmers' Market on Sunday mornings under the Jones Falls Expressway and finally got there this summer on August 19. It's near city hall on Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay and right behind the diner used in the movie DINER. The market runs May through Christmas. We've never seen it so crowded--even the Baltimore folk were complaining! The market about half produce, plants and baked goods, a third prepared foods and a few tchotchke dealers.

The crepes vendor who sets up on Saturdays at Eastern Market summer sets up in Baltimore on Sundays. We skipped a crepe on Saturday because we were going to Baltimore, but the crepe line in Baltimore was 3 or 4 times longer than at Eastern Market!

Among our favorite Baltimore farmers are the one selling shelled lima beans, black-eyed peas and crowder peas by the pound and another selling dozens of varieties of tomatoes in the summer and apples in the fall. While Bill bought plants, David stood in the line for mini donuts made while you wait.
