All the King's Men

In DC, it's never the heat, it's the humidity, and so it was August 6 for All the King's Men at Screen on the Green. There was no sign of the predicted thunderstorms, but it was warm, sticky, and with a little breeze. Bill and I picnicked on bean dip with tortilla chips, BCTs, tzatziki salad, peaches, nectarines and an extravagant, well chilled chocolate pistachio bar. We enjoyed the Academy award winning 1949 version with Broderick Crawford, John Ireland and Mercedes McCambridge BUT, unlike the recent 2006 Sean Penn version, the older movie omits Jack Burden's parentage and seems to fudge Sadie Burke's relationships.

It takes all kinds.
