DCWASA INVASION
Several years ago the Army Corps of Engineers, for dubious reasons, changed the chemistry of the water treatment for DC, and ever since then city has had all sorts of plumbing problems. Among other things, the new water ate away the soldering for the spout on our electric kettle, wreaked havoc with public fountains across the city, and raised lead levels in the drinking water to levels not seen since the fall of the Roman Empire. Rather than change the chemistry, DCWASA is going door to door replacing the lead pipes that run from the water mains in the center of the streets to the property lines, which in DC often sit, not at the sidewalk, but at the building line.
We moved our front yard garden to containers in the back yard hoping to keep enough alive to have the beginning of a post DCWASA garden. We cut off the lilies and sunflowers and put them in vases indoors in hopes of salvaging the blooms. This is the second week that the contractors have been on our street and we are next.
