Our Garden in Early July

This year the garden benefited from over abundant rain in May and June and from the fertilizer Milorganite which promotes bloom over green growth. There's only so much one can do in a raised bed approximately 10' by 10'. Perennials have come and gone over the years. Even with perenniels, one needs annuals for color in July and August. The garden gets full sun from about 11 am to 4 pm in midsummer.
Hilleast still suffers from plant vandals--persons who pick blooms as they walk by, so we try to plant flowers that benefit from deadheading along the sidewalk front and locate more special blooms out of arms reach.
In the spring we try to resist weeding until we know what is what. Here is one of the volunteer sunflowers, apparently from last winter's bird feeder. We also like coleus as a filler.
