Wilmington

The vote for American independence was unanimous only because Caesar Rodney rode overnight through a thunderstorm to break a deadlock in the Delaware delegation in Philadelphia. An equestrian statue commemorating this ride for Independence dominates Rodney Square in the heart of downtown Wilmington.

Four 18th century buildings were preserved in the 20th century by moving them to a location across from the Old Town Hall (c. 1798) which served Wilmington for over 100 years.
