Redwoods, Russians and Bodega Bay

September 28, 2009: We drove to Guerneville to see the Armstrong Redwoods, a protected grove of Sequoia sempervirens, the tallest lifeforms on this planet.
































The tree named for Colonel Armstrong is 308 feet tall, 14.6 feet in diameter and 1400 years old!

We drove down the Russian River to the Pacific and up the coast to Fort Ross, the southernmost Russian colony (1812-1841) in North America.




































From Fort Ross, we drove back down the coast and on to Bodega Bay. There were California sea lions along the way:
