Lahaina










Lahaina, on the west coast of West Maui, was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii until 1845 and the center of 19th century whaling. At the town center is largest banyan tree in the United States (above), the remains a 19th century coral fort (below l), and the 1901 Pioneer Inn (below r).


















Lunch was surfside at Aloha Mixed Plate--view toward Lanai (below l), view toward Molokai (below r).









The largest metallic Buddha outside Japan (below r) at the Lahaina Jodo Mission.
